Head, Database Maintenance, Cataloging Department, University of Georgia

Supervision & workflow management

Supervise the Database Maintenance Section consisting of two Units, Marking and Maintenance, with a total of 9 fulltime staff and 3 student workers through designing and analyzing workflow, developing procedures, training, evaluating work, and maintaining monthly statistics in a high production quality control, team-oriented enviroment.

Researched, implemented and developed workflow for an automated labeling program for marking materials cumulating in a purchasing proposal. Create training materials and evaluate workflow.

Work with members of the Systems Department and others to investigate, evaluate, and develop regularly scheduled Access reports to identify problems in the online catalog (GIL).

Work closely with members of the Libraries’ Cataloging and Systems Departments, Graduate School, and Honors College, in developing and evaluating a database for electronic theses and dissertations (etd) including work standards, field values, and workflow. Facilitate a smooth transition between print theses & dissertations within the Cataloging Department.

Resolve maintenance issues, complex conversion problems and database discrepancies in the the online catalog (GIL).

Participate in general library administration by attending Section Head meetings. Additionally, serve as a resource person within the UGA Libraries in the areas of marking and database maintenance.

Continue technical training & leadership development through coursework and workshops. Received certificate for completion of FrontLine Leadership Series, a course offered through Staff Training & Development (2004). Currently working towards certification in Managerial Leadership.

Project management

Coordinate and facilitate bibliographic, holding and item record maintenance projects relating to the database integrity of the UGA library catalog, GIL (Voyager), including the Circents project of approximately 170,000 database records, and the Microform Miscoded Report involving 192,876 records.

Original and complex copy cataloging of theses and dissertations by assigning LC call numbers and subject headings, verifying LC Name Authority Records and editing Non-LC copy as part of a cataloging project for Coastal Plain Experiment Station (CPES).

Serve as the Cataloging Department’s Lead Web Editor through developing and maintaining the online Policy & Procedures Manual, which has served as a model for other departments within the Libraries. Additionally, serve as resource within the Libraries for graphic design and web standards.

Planned, coordinated and managed a variety of projects in the Database Maintenance Section including correcting conversion problems, verifying bibliographic, holding or item information for the Media Department (Video collection), Georgia Room, as well as other departments. In addition to the routine workflow of sending materials to the off campus storage facility (REPO), coordinated major transfer projects of Mixed Media (Media Department), LXK class material (Georgia Room), and Audio LPs (Music Library).

Technical Services Librarian, Oxford College of Emory University (1999-2001)

Maintain and participate in all levels of technical services operations including collection management, ordering/acquisitions, cataloging and database maintenance for all formats of materials in a variety of subject areas.

Catalog and edit records in the local SIRSI catalog for monographs, monographic sets and serials through downloading OCLC records and assigning Dewey Decimal call numbers following DDC21 and the Cutter Sanborn Tables. Order and receive materials in all formats including VHS tapes, cassette tapes, CDs, CD-ROMs, and print materials.

Manage workflow of Technical Services through supervising the Cataloging Specialist and five student workers; additionally, serve as the Preservation Liaison for Oxford College Library, the Oxford College Library GOLD Compliance Committee Member, and as a member of OXEWG, a database support working group.
